Chapter 48 The Last Dragonborn
Chapter 48 The Last Dragonborn
"It got hit?" Mordy watched as Niflheim was knocked down by a dragon's roar, and then saw his ice lightning spear pierce through its head.
"Who is unleashing the dragon roar?"
As he removed the Page of Deviany, the effects of madness, boiling murderous intent, and thirst for blood faded from him, and the Seed of the Soul also calmed down.
As his distorted appearance as a half-dragon, half-Wendigo gradually disappeared, his thoughts became much clearer.
"Isn't that the direction of Frostmourne's Tomb? So... Elena?" The brown-haired girl's name made his heart skip a beat.
He drew his greatsword and slung it over his shoulder, ignoring the nearby Windrunner squad, and strode toward Elena's location.
Behind a large rock, apart from Orfgang who was still unconscious, the three Windrunners peeked out and looked at the downed ice dragon, all showing shocked expressions.
"He did it! He successfully hunted down a resurrected dragon!"
Celia looked at the figure carrying the greatsword on his shoulder, her feelings complicated.
On the one hand, as a priestess of the Green Path, she should have been hostile to necromancers like him who manipulated the dead.
On the other hand, she could sense that this necromancer, who seemed to have Wendigo blood, meant them no harm and had even saved their lives.
This made it impossible for her to feel hostility towards him.
Of course, there was also an element of intuition; her intuition told her that if she attacked that person, they would die a horrible death.
"What should we do next?"
With a sense of relief at surviving the ordeal, Levi asked in a low voice.
"Let's discuss this again once Orfgang wakes up."
Colin jumped up and patted his arm.
"Kid, you did a great job just now. Even though your rocket spell was useless, at least it proves you're not a coward."
Reeves scratched his head and smiled awkwardly.
He vowed that he would never again engage in such dangerous activities, absolutely never.
"Hey, Orfgang, you're finally awake." Colin struggled to pull the Northern barbarian's hand up from the ground.
"What just happened? What happened to that dragon? What happened to that dragon?" Orfgang's memory was still stuck on the moment before he lost consciousness.
"Don't get so excited, that dragon is long dead, you'll see."
Colin pointed to the mountains in the distance.
Orfgang looked in the direction he was pointing, and his pupils immediately shrank to the size of pins.
After the blizzard subsided, the sunlight shone directly on the throat of winter, illuminating the giant dragon lying prone on the ground.
At this moment, it was covered in blood and no longer possessed the power and beauty it once had.
The blood flowing from its body stained a large area of the mountain red, making the mountain appear exceptionally alluring under the sunlight.
"Wait a minute," Orfgang noticed something was wrong, "look at that ice dragon, isn't its body getting shriveled up?"
The three looked up, and Colin, with the best eyesight, was the first to see.
The dragon corpse was indeed much shriveled compared to before, as if its flesh and blood had vanished into thin air.
"Could it be that... that kind necromancer from just now?" Celia asked in a strange tone.
"A kind necromancer? Celia, shouldn't you think about what you just said?"
Orfgang got up from the ground and gestured.
"That strong, muscular man, you're saying he's a mage? Have you ever seen a mage who can fight a dragon hand-to-hand? In my opinion, he's definitely a berserker with Wendigo blood."
"My intuition tells me he's a mage," the elven priest glanced at him. "Tell me, should I believe you, or my intuition?"
"Alright, stop arguing. Let's discuss what our next step should be."
The halfling separated the two of them and turned to look at Reeves.
"Hey kid, don't just stand there like an idiot, come over here for the meeting."
"Me?" Levi pointed to himself, and was pulled over the next second.
Behind a rock, the Windrunner squad's first four-person meeting began.
......
Near the Frost Tomb of Frost, Mordi glanced at the gradually shriveling dragon corpse and frowned.
Through the Eye of the Soul, he saw the ice dragon's flesh and blood mixing with some strange substance, constantly dissipating.
In his memory, this peculiar substance was very similar to the one inside the jade dragon carving.
And their final destination was Elena, lying face down on the ground, with her left index finger outstretched in a strange pose.
Seeing this, his heart skipped a beat. He quickly walked to the girl's side, picked her up, and checked on her.
A few seconds later, he breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness, I just fainted from exhaustion. I guess it was caused by that dragon roar just now."
Mordy draped his tattered Wendigo shawl over Elena, then cast a fire barrier on her to keep her warm before turning his attention back to the dragon corpse.
There was very little flesh and blood left of the dragon corpse, but fortunately he had already "refined" the ice dragon's bloodline, and the dragon blood that had spilled all over the ground was enough for his needs.
The only question now is, why would Elena do something like this without realizing it?
"There's only one truth," he said, staring at Elena's rosy cheeks, increasingly certain of his guess, "You are Duvakyne."
"What is Duvakeyin?" She suddenly opened her eyes, her deep blue pupils reflecting the man's face.
"Dragonborn." Mordy met her gaze for two seconds, then looked away. "How much longer are you going to stay on me?"
Elena's face turned red to the roots of her ears again, and she quickly left his embrace.
As soon as she landed, she told him everything she had done and begged for his forgiveness.
"Elena, you did a good job, you did a good job!"
Contrary to her expectations, Modi showed no sign of blame; instead, he showered her with praise.
"How can a mere jade dragon carving compare to a dragon corpse?"
Elena, quick-witted, stopped Niflheim's escape and also made him understand what was hidden inside the Emerald Dragon Carving.
Without a doubt, that is a dragon soul, similar to the ice dragon soul that Elena is absorbing.
Beside it, the dragon corpse had shriveled up to the point of being skin and bones, with only a layer of scales covering its skeleton.
Its value inevitably decreased, but Mordy, who was skilled in necromancy, was still able to make the most of the corpse.
With the curse within the Frost Tomb Sanctuary, he might be able to obtain a powerful and reliable bone dragon.
However, the key issue now is not how to deal with the dragon corpse, but how he should view Elena.
The last dragonborn, this identity not only symbolizes power, but also signifies an inescapable responsibility.
She and Aldurian, the Shadow of the End, will face off sooner or later.
However, what Modi found hard to accept was that the person who assumed this identity was a pure-hearted college student who seemed to have come from another world.
Looking at Elena, who was standing blankly to one side with a smile on her face, he couldn't help but wonder if it was a mistake to let her take on the responsibilities of a dragonborn.
"Elena, stop laughing. I have a question for you."
Upon hearing this, Elena immediately snapped out of her reverie and straightened her posture.
"Ask away, I'm listening."
"After you absorbed the dragon soul, did anything change about your body?"
Elena pondered for a moment, and a flash of wisdom struck her as she recalled all the knowledge and skills she had acquired from the dragon.
"I seem to have learned a lot of dragon language, as well as dragon magic and knowledge."
She hesitated for a moment, then added, "My body seems to have become much stronger too."
"That makes sense." Modi nodded, not surprised at all.
After all, she had devoured the dragon's soul and flesh, so it's hard to say whether she could be considered a humanoid dragon mother.
"Mortis, I feel like I could beat ten times my former self now. Would you say I'm a superhuman now?" she asked excitedly.
Modi grabbed the little hand that was waving wildly in front of him, and the Cold Blood True Qi surged into Elena's body, circling around before returning to its original point.
"How is it? Does it count?" Feeling the coolness coursing through her body, she shivered and quickly asked.
Modi remained silent, only frowning, which made her think to herself, "This is bad."
After a moment of silence, he finally spoke:
"In terms of physical attributes alone, even if you are not as good as that ice dragon, you are still stronger than one of the warrior-class superhumans I have ever seen."
The extraordinary person he was referring to was, of course, Orfgang.
"but......"
Elena's smile froze, like a patient anxiously awaiting a doctor's call.
"...You do not have the seed of extraordinary ability within you, so you cannot be considered an extraordinary being."
This puzzled Modi, because even dragons follow the extraordinary path created by the God of Light.
That is, the path from the extraordinary to the immortal to the eternal.
Elena, however, was different. Although she was physically and mentally powerful, comparable to a superhuman, she showed no signs of having condensed a superhuman seed.
This situation reminded him of Gu Long's path.
Gu Long was born with a powerful physique and a tenacious spirit.
They don't need training, and training is useless to them, because their strength is naturally fixed.
Nothing will be added or reduced, and it will not be affected.
In Mordy's opinion, Elena now has that kind of vibe.
His cold blood true energy could not plunder her power, just like hitting a stubborn rock, unable to affect her in the slightest.
"So what's my situation now?"
Elena looked completely bewildered.
"Although you are not a superhuman, you are comparable to one, and you can also increase your power by absorbing dragon souls," Modi replied.
This last point is different from the ancient dragons, whose power is predetermined, while she can improve it through hunting dragons.
It's like an optimized version of a humanoid ancient dragon.
After listening to him, Elena's wisdom was fully mobilized.
"I can rival the superhumans, and Mortis is also a superhuman, so I can rival Mortis."
In other words, I'm not a burden to him now.
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but hum softly, a sweet smile appearing on her face.
The four Windranger members who had just walked over were stunned.
They'd never seen anyone laugh like that before... well, it was unique.
"Ahem." Mody tugged at Elena's sleeve, subtly stepping in front of her to greet the newcomer:
"Greetings, Windranger players."
"Hello, unknown... dragon slayer."
Orfgang stepped forward, led his teammates to bow slightly to him, and said, "To be honest, I didn't expect you to know our team's name."
"I didn't expect you to be here either," Modi replied with a smile.
With the blessing of Brendan's Page, the abilities of [Fooling People] and [Mastering Roles] have begun to take effect.
