Chapter 85 Camelot's Orthodoxy in Mordred
Chapter 85 Camelot's Orthodoxy in Mordred
Camelot, a magnificent city that has existed for over a thousand years.
Its exterior walls are magnificent and tall, forming a unified whole. They do not appear to be built piece by piece with bricks and stones, but rather seem like a miracle that suddenly rises from the ground.
"This is a true miracle."
Modi stood beneath the city wall, stroking the wall that had stood for thousands of years, and sensed the faint remnants of divine power within it.
Based on what he had seen and heard along the way, he could basically conclude that the kingdom's productivity was insufficient to build such a tall city wall.
According to Camelot's legend, the king fell in love with the place at first sight when he first set foot there.
He commanded the earth to raise a giant wall, thus establishing the kingdom's first city, the royal city of Camelot.
Upon seeing it today, Modi realized that the legend was not unfounded.
"Which version of King Arthur has this ability? It's probably just an ancient god in Arthur's skin."
It's hard to imagine what a magnificent kingdom it must have been when the king was still lucid, since legend has it that he could even command bountiful harvests and quell natural disasters.
After estimating the height of the city wall, he controlled the twelve blood shadows to leap into the air.
The blood-red figures clung to the wall, climbing silently like geckos until they reached the top of the city wall.
"Even the faint trace of divine power made my body feel slightly numb. If the city wall had been built when it was first constructed, it would have truly been impervious to all magic."
Standing atop the city wall, Blood Shadow absorbed all light, remaining upright and shadowless, merging with the darkness, allowing patrolling soldiers to pass by.
Looking down at the ground, fifty or sixty meters above the ground, Modi saw that the houses were arranged in an orderly manner and the streets were wide and clean, without the filth and disorder of a medieval city.
There was no sign of war.
"Strange, wasn't it supposed to be a rebellion? Was it quelled in just one day?"
Apart from some damaged houses, the royal city was generally intact, and soldiers were patrolling the streets.
He watched for a while, then leaped down, and the other eleven blood shadows dispersed, disappearing into the darkness of Camelot.
On the street, two soldiers carrying lanterns walked side by side, chatting casually.
A younger soldier grumbled:
"I don't know what the higher-ups were thinking. They were almost fighting this morning, but then they started negotiating again at noon. I was worried all morning."
"You should be grateful you've lived one more day. When the fighting starts, we'll definitely be the first to die."
The older soldier glanced at him and said without any mercy.
The young soldier scoffed at his criticism, completely ignoring it.
"If we don't fight, how can we earn military merits? I'd rather die in battle than be a patrolman for the rest of my life."
Upon hearing this, the veteran curled his lip, revealing a cold smile, and mocked:
"Those who have no reverence for war will surely die because of it. War is not as easy as you imagine. When I was young, I..."
"Alright, alright, I'm sick and tired of hearing that."
The young soldier casually interrupted him and continued his patrol, when he suddenly caught a glimpse of a dark figure out of the corner of his eye.
A dark figure stood motionless in the corner, and when the light shone on it, one could vaguely see something flowing inside.
"What is this?"
Curious, he brought the lantern closer, only to see the dark figure move.
In an instant, the black shadow changed color, transforming into a humanoid blood shadow that lunged at him.
He was startled and turned to run, but saw another bloody figure behind him entangle the old soldier as well.
When he turned around again, he saw the blood-red figure already lunging at him.
The feeling of suffocation overwhelmed him, and at that moment he finally experienced the fear of death.
"I'll borrow your body for a while, and return it to you soon."
Modi wrapped the two souls in blood shadow, without digesting them, but merely usurped control of their bodies.
The two soldiers, like zombies, stepped out of the shadows by the wall, their bodies swaying with each step.
"It's my first time controlling someone else's body, so I'm a little clumsy... but I'm almost there now."
The soldiers' walking posture is more natural, and there is not much difference compared to their original posture.
"The other Blood Shadows have also had their bodies found. The next step is to gather intelligence and keep moving around."
Not much useful information was obtained from the soldiers, and only a few things interested Mordy.
The fundamental reason for suppressing the rebellion.
With many questions in mind, Modi led the two soldiers toward the barracks.
Camelot and the other Blood Shadows also began their own operations.
Some were attached to nobles, while others were attached to servants.
They all climbed upwards in unison, seeking a body of higher status.
Barracks.
An officer heard a commotion behind him, turned around, and saw two patrolling soldiers.
He glanced at the sky outside, his brow furrowed, his expression displeased, and he snapped:
"Why are you two running back to the barracks instead of on patrol? Are you trying to slack off?"
The two soldiers stared at him without saying a word, only revealing strange smiles, and stepped forward.
"What do you want to do?"
The officer was startled by the eerie smile and couldn't help but take a half step back, instinctively drawing his sword.
Before he could make a move, two blood-red shadows pounced simultaneously and burrowed straight into his body.
"Thump."
The sword fell to the ground, as did the bodies of the two soldiers.
"One body, two bloody shadows, it's a bit crowded."
Modi picked up his sword from the ground, then moved the two soldiers to the bed and covered them with blankets.
"They'll probably be unconscious for six or seven hours, which should be enough time, and besides..."
This officer had a lot of useful information in his mind.
This includes Camelot's current situation, the reasons for the negotiations, and palace secrets.
"I never expected that the rebel leader really had royal blood, and the judge seemed particularly interested in this bloodline."
It was precisely because of their royal lineage that the three judges were willing to negotiate.
Even if they don't want to do it.
"I possess the blood of the Mad King. If the king is indeed the Mad King, doesn't that mean I am also a legitimate descendant of Camelot?"
Modi had a bold idea.
Perhaps, he could also be a prince.
Taking control of the officer's body, he left the barracks to find someone of a higher rank.
From patrolling soldier to squad leader, and then to knight commander.
Overnight, he became the legendary fastest promotion in Camelot.
The other Blood Shadows also gained something, and the information they gathered together pieced together a general outline.
"The king's identity has been confirmed; he is indeed the mad king."
"The rebel stronghold has been identified."
"The judge is suspected of having reached a deal with the rebel leader."
Although Blood Shadow acts covertly and is difficult to detect, as the saying goes, walking the night too often makes you more likely to encounter ghosts.
Right now, one of Modi's blood shadows has encountered a ghost.
An untimely "tap-tap" sound rang out on the empty street.
Modi held his breath and hid in the shadows, only glancing at the street out of the corner of his eye.
The sound came from afar and had a certain melody, making it sound like someone was dancing.
Judging from this alone, the owner of the voice must be not far away.
"At this speed, there are probably five more seconds... It's stopped?"
The sound stopped abruptly, and Modi frowned slightly.
He glanced to the other side and found a pair of red dancing shoes beside him.
The surface of the dance shoes is as red and vibrant as blood, but looking up at them only sends chills down your spine.
Because those red dancing shoes belong to two fair and slender legs.
These two legs were severed cleanly at the knees, with flesh and blood falling away down to the feet, revealing leg bones that had been ground to an unusually sharp edge.
Modi judged that those two sharp leg bones alone were enough to cut off the head of this body, or to kill it instantly.
"Another ancient god artifact. When did ancient god artifacts become available in bulk?"
From the red dancing shoes, he sensed an aura similar to that of the matchbox and the chain blade, all originating from the same ancient god.
"I remember the fairy tale 'The Red Shoes,' but what about these murderous shoes? They're not in the original story."
Modi stomped his foot and subconsciously used the Blood Shadow Step technique to retreat rapidly, thus avoiding the leg bone's slash.
The sharp bone knife didn't cut him; instead, it left a deep scratch on the ground.
Taking advantage of the moment, the other shoe jumped up and swung the bone knife at him.
In sync with the movement of the other shoe, it seems to be performing a light and lively dance.
Modi dodged the slashes one after another, but was gradually forced into a corner by the dance-like swordsmanship.
The red dancing shoes lightly touched the ground, leaving a series of bloody shoe prints. The cold light shone continuously, weaving into a sword net to block the way ahead.
"Tsk, this body is too weak, many techniques cannot be used."
Suppressing the urge to dance with the red shoes, he slit his wrist, dipped two fingers in the blood, and tore it off.
Blood was drawn out, and together with the deathly aura of the Styx, it coalesced into a red glow, attaching itself to those two fingers.
He pointed his fingers together to form a sword and slashed at the two leg bone swords.
The sword finger, glowing with red light, clashed with the bone sword, and in an instant, it sliced them both in two.
The two red dancing shoes fell to the ground, and ignoring the severed leg bones, it turned to flee.
"Once you're here, don't leave. Try my newly developed spell, the Blood-Transforming Divine Blade."
Modi sneered and casually flicked out the red light from his fingertip.
The Blood-Transforming Divine Blade pursued relentlessly, easily catching up with the hopping red dancing shoes.
The red light split into two, each wrapping around a red dancing shoe. With a gentle turn, it peeled away all the flesh and bone from the shoe.
With another turn, the flesh and bones dissolved and merged into the red light.
The red light intensified, and the red rays transformed into red ropes, binding the two red dancing shoes tightly together.
Modi took one end of the red rope and pulled it casually, and the two dancing shoes fell into his hands.
He played with the red dancing shoes for a while, not caring that they were dirty, then tied them up like a rice dumpling with a red rope and hung them directly on his waist.
"You've already created energy fluctuations; the monitor should have noticed by now, right?"
He strolled out of the alley, turned around, and sure enough, saw an old man standing not far from him at the street corner.
The old man was dressed in a black robe with gold trim, carrying a lamp in his hand, his eyes bright and radiant.
The light in his eyes was almost identical to the light in the lantern.
Modi was certain that those eyes had seen right through his trickery.
After a brief standoff, the old man spoke:
"Using supernatural powers to possess another's body without permission violates the kingdom's laws and deserves beheading."
"Wait, are you going to cut off this body's head? Or my head?"
Modi pointed to his current head, a subtle smile curving his lips.
The old man remained silent, raised his lantern, shone it on him, and suddenly pulled him away.
A pulling force acted on the blood shadow.
Modi swayed slightly, activating his three major marks on his body and remotely stabilizing the Blood Shadow.
"It seems you can't separate us."
He grinned, completely ignoring the old man's increasingly cold expression.
