Chapter 1082 - 1053: The Third Person
Squeak! The red light went out, followed closely by the sound of the sliding door. Xiao Lin walked out, still wearing his blood-stained surgical gown, sweat soaking his hair, although his excessively indifferent face appeared particularly out of place. Closely behind him was the lead surgeon, whose face was nearly twisted together, in stark contrast to Xiao Lin.
"How is it?" Meisai stepped forward to block Xiao Lin’s path, eager to know what was happening inside.
"Heh!" It was hard to tell whether it was a sneer, as Xiao Lin stepped aside and bypassed Meisai to leave, his coldness instantly chilling Meisai significantly. "George, how is it?"
"Originally, he could have been revived, but the person you brought insisted on performing heart gauze separation surgery, and as a result... I’m very sorry!" The lead surgeon called George patted Meisai’s shoulder and shook his head regretfully.
"Wasn’t it a fracture and trauma? How is it related to the heart?" Meisai glanced at Xiao Lin sitting to the side, then turned his head to George.
"The professional stuff, you wouldn’t understand even if I explained it. When we pinpointed the exact cause, we discovered gauze left during a previous surgery had adhered to the heart, causing his arteries to be exaggerated. If we opted for conservative treatment, his life could have been prolonged with medication, yet your friend insisted on solving the issue thoroughly once the chest was opened. So we proceeded with the separation surgery, but unfortunately, heart bleeding led to the patient dying on the operating table."
"Are you saying that the patient could have lived, but you failed to complete the surgery successfully, leading to heart rupture and bleeding? Is that it?" Meisai tried to piece together George’s words but couldn’t confidently determine whether such a scenario could happen to Xiao Lin unless it was truly irreversible.
"Yes! I’m very sorry, Meisai. I will handle the patient’s affairs, so don’t worry too much." George patted Meisai’s shoulder again, the large bloodstain on the surgical gown was the result of the earlier action, and this person merely discarded it aside, walking past Xiao Lin in a vest.
The person who had been silent suddenly stood up from the stool and unexpectedly swung a fist at George’s head. Meisai rushed over upon hearing the cries of agony from behind. "Mr. Xiao, what do you mean?"
"Is he your friend?" Xiao Lin waved the fist he had thrown, his dark eyes fixed firmly on the person named George. "Scum!"
"Xiao, Mr. Xiao!" Meisai was completely bewildered by the situation. While assisting George, he called out to the departing Xiao Lin, and the beaten individual dejectedly sat on the ground. "George, did something happen inside? Although Mr. Xiao’s temperament is rather cold, his medical expertise is unmatched, isn’t this right..."
"I was the lead surgeon!" George spoke softly, and Meisai blinked. "I only wanted to save the patient’s life, knowing how dangerous that separation surgery was, but that person insisted, which led to this situation."
"From start to finish you were the lead surgeon, Mr. Xiao was assisting?"
"He first noticed the abnormal situation. I believed I could handle it entirely with my experience, but truly, I didn’t anticipate such an outcome."
"It’s okay, George, I will arrange everything for the patient afterward." Meisai wasn’t sure how to continue and simply called in the nurse, chasing after Xiao Lin as he rushed out of the clinic.
Yelü Shou had been waiting for Xiao Lin in the car, noticing the boss’s surly face emerging, he automatically remained silent. "That bastard!" After a while, Xiao Lin finally blurted out.
"Is he dead?" Yelü Shou tapped the steering wheel with the side of his hand.
"The wound you inflicted wouldn’t have been fatal!"
"I chased him to Caesar Street, he seemed to deliberately let me catch up for some reason. Our encounter was actually rather brief, and I wonder why someone who could have escaped from me chose to be defeated in a single blow?"
"Not deliberately to lose to you, but to make sure I appeared in that hospital!"
"What do you mean?"
"Jean Lofis had a mitral valve surgery two years ago. Gauze left on the heart caused complete adhesion. He didn’t really lose to you, but from the start, he was destined to lose to you."
"Are you saying someone wanted you to intervene?"
"I am a military doctor; there’s no surgery I can’t perform!"
"Even if you fail, it doesn’t affect you much?"
"No! It shouldn’t be as simple as just failure." Xiao Lin lowered his head in deep thought, questioning whether that lead surgeon became a scapegoat due to greed. "Would a doctor with over a decade of surgery experience accidentally cut wrongly out of surprise?"
"It’s not entirely impossible."
"If that doctor was part of a plan, then I should have been the lead surgeon, intervening in the process, but he insisted on being the lead surgeon himself, ensuring that any medical accident would not implicate me."
"Perhaps someone wanted him dead because witnesses saw him running out of the alley where Wang Zhantian died, making this deceased person seamlessly become the prime murderer, without living evidence, say what you like!"
"The, that Tang, where is he?" Xiao Lin didn’t refute Yelü Shou’s speculation, but upon realizing that the little boy wasn’t around, the first thought that came to mind was this person who was identical to Hong.
"When you went for surgery, I was also sent to the emergency room for bandaging. When I came out, only Meisai was there!" Yelü Shou was about to start the car. "Lin, don’t you find this fishy? I can’t deny my shock upon seeing Tang, but I am sure he is Hong, and the relationship between Meisai and Tang, he clearly isn’t Mu Rongyun, which brings up another issue, the relationship between Meisai and Mu Rongyun, even if you don’t say it, I can guess the person who took Hong’s body away was Mu Rongyun."
Xiao Lin exhaled deeply, realizing Jean Lofis existed to protect Tang, and Meisai evidently knew this. If there was no relationship between him and Mu Rongyun, it made no sense, finding the clinic on such short notice, although not impossible, but Jean Lofis dying on the operating table surely wasn’t merely an accident? Reassessing the scenes from before, a detail unnoticed by anyone returned to his mind. "No, it wasn’t the lead surgeon!" Xiao Lin shouted while getting out of the car and rushing into the clinic.
"Mr. Xiao?" Meisai happened to be coming out from inside. "There’s been another attack on Bar Street, you..." (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, welcome to vote for recommendations, monthly tickets on Qidian (qidian.com), your support is my greatest motivation.)
